Arundhati Roy on the Human Costs of India's Economic Growth

"We are slowly becoming Agents" Interview with Arundhati Roy

This is a very important interview. The thought by Arundhati Roy "We are all slowly becoming Agents" is to be understood by every one.

Santana - Maria Maria

Great guitar solo. Guitar is the main and the vocal is getting a second priority in this song as per me.

Great Guitarist: Santana - Smooth (feat. Rob Thomas)

Enjoy the lead guitar performance by Santana.

Forever Young - Bob Dylan

We should also listen to orginal by Bob Dylan. The mixture of Acoustic Guitar, end of fret notes and the Harmonica(we call it as mouth organ) is simply great.

This stage performance is good cover for Bob Dylan's original 'Forever Young'.

Stariway to Heaven: Fransisco Tarrega: Alhambra

Kaori Muraji plays the composition of Fransisco Tarrega - Alhambara. This is simply great. This is tried by so many musicians. This performance tries to capture the finer feelings behind the composition. I feel this composition expresses a sort of pain which can not be shared by you to any one. You will have to keep it with you till you die.

Asturias played John Williams

John Williams is playing the composition of Albeniz. See the end of first part, the note at the end of fret. After that, it sounds like a Veena. Great!

Sunburst - Andrew York by Andrea Ricciardi, in Spanish Guitar

Andrew York's composition of Sun Birst is tried in Spanish guitar. I liked it.

Julian Bream - J.S Bach-Violin Sonata fugue

Guitar has infinite possibilities. This is proven in this performance. A Violin music in Guitar! I like the Guitar version more than Violin.

Divine Music by Julian Bream & John Williams

Please listen to this divine music by Julian Bream and John Williams. You can see both the players are in love with Guitar.

Andres Segovia - Asturias

Great Composer: Isaac Albeniz - Asturias

Many legendary musicians palyed the great composition of Albeniz. This is simply great.
Enjoy the real creative non-compromising music.

Sunburst- Andrew York

The guitar used is called as Flemenco Guitar. This guitar is different normal metal strings spanish guitar. This has three nylon strings (high pitch strings G, B and E). Low pitch strings E, A and D are made of silver metal.

Playing this type of Guitar needs lot of practice. All the right hand fingers are to be used to paly the strings unlike using a pluck trem for Spanish guitar.

Andrew York - Numen

Shreya Goshal - Effect of Meditation

Jogwa - Intense experience

The Marati movie, Jogwa is an intense movie showing the violence in families. It shows how the society and parents force young people and lead them in a impractical way of living. Parents should not treat their children as a toy. Each child is an individual human being having the natural feelings and emotions like any one in this world. Some child can not become special and lead an impractical life due to force.

Movie is directed by Rajiv Patil in a realistic way. The movie is focused only on the core issue and not drifted for other masalas (unnecessary songs, fight scenes, lengthy dialogues, lectures etc.). I appreciate the efforts of the director and his best team. Lead actors Upendra Limaye and Mukta Barve have given their best. I liked the role of Kishore Kadam who has taken the role of Eunuch. Kishore Kadam gave great performance in the movie Natrang also.

Pains of Thayappa(Upendra Limaye) was really captured in a scene when he dances (after taking a drink) in a street for a fast beat in an ongoing procession. Tears roll out naturally while watching this, you can feel the pain gone through a person who is having no way to escape from the society.

Music directors Ajay-Atul have given a wonderful creative music. Natural folk is reflected in the song "Lallati Bhandar" best sung naturally by Ajay Gogavale with traditional instruments. Best song of the movie is "Jeev Rangla" by Hariharan and Shreya Goshal. Listening to this song gives you a trans experience.

This is a must watch movie for all.

Karthik Calling Karthik - Power of inner voice

I did not consider the portions related to psychiatric treatments etc, which are normally shown in other movies.

One main interesting fact depicted in this movie which I liked was the power of inner voice in each person. You may call this as "Auto Suggestion". This movie is to be seen by all professionals. This distinctly shows the difference of confidence level while talking to boss.

Another interesting fact depicted is the menace of phones. When you dont have phones, you are peaceful and not disturbed.

About J.P.Chanakya's Kanavu Puthagam

I was reading J.P. Chanakya's short story collection "Kanavu Puthagam". I completed one story so far. That was "Amaravathiyin Poonai". This was a good story narrating the sexual desires (combined with ego) of a man.

A man does not want to compromise his ego over woman at any point of time. At the same time, he wants to use the woman to the maximum for his desires. When a woman starts doing the same, his ego is hurt and he is not able to accept this.

This reminds me JeyaGandhan's "Oru Nadigai Nadagam Parkiral". Man does not accept a woman without a flaw. This was a wonderful novel.

I recommend reading J.P.Chanakya's short stories.

Hawaiin guitar

Recently I bought two audio CDs of Hawaiin guitar compositions. I had earlier bought one audio CD of Hawaiin guitar. When I hear the earlier CD, the notes are sustaining and not discrete as played in Spanish guitar. But when I hear the recent CDs, the notes are discrete similar to Spanish guitar and not sustaining.

So I got confused why they named this as Hawaiin guitar compositions.

Power of music

I feel music can be used to unite all communities. Basically it can help people to come to one platform and reamin quiet for some time. Recently I went to a picnic organised by office friends to a water park. As planned, office friends requested me to bring my guitar. I said that I have to bring the amplifier also as acoustic guitar doesnt sound much in a hall without an amplifir. I bought one good amplifier specially used for acoustic guitar recently. Friends insisted to bring both, they also assured that they will carry the amplifier, even if it is bulky.

Morning, everone enjoyed the water games. After lunch, there was ample time to take rest. Everyone assembled and asked me to play. I was feeling shy to play in front of such big crowd. I have done such perfromance twice only earlier. Even then, I have an inhibition or stage fear.

This is because, I didnt get sufficient time to practice. Still, I managed to practice about 5 songs.

I started playing 'Neele Neele Ambar par' (hindi version of 'Ilaya nila') lead in guitar. It came out well. Everyone appreciated and requested me to play it again.

Then I played the starting lead for the song 'Ennulle ennulle' from the movie Valli.

At last I played a melody learnt from a master in Chennai.

As a whole, everyone was quiet watching this performance.

I feel that this should be done regularly, arrange good parties, get-togethers, play music and enjoy.

When everyone was listening to music, their mind was relaxed, think about only the music and not anything else.

I understood the power of music!

Search of a great singer

Ilayaraja is in continous search of great voices from the beginning. His search has given us the finest singers like Uma Ramanan, Jensi, K.S.Chitra and many more. Recently, he has identified Bela Shinde to sing in "Vaalmiki". Bela Shinde has sung in the Marathi movie "Natrang". The song was "Apsara..". I liked this song very much. Similarly, there are three or four songs sung by Bela Shinde in the movie "Vaalmiki". Great voice!

Shreya Goshal is another singer he had identified earlier to sing in Tamil. Her song "Unnai Vida" in the movie "Virumandi" was really great.
